MIT Global Teaching Labs in Wales 2020
Equal Education has recently been appointed by the Welsh Government to deliver and manage the MIT Global Teaching Labs (GTL) in Wales programme in January 2020!
Through the MIT Global Teaching Labs (GTL) programme, MIT sends approx. 180 instructors to schools in 14 countries across the world every January to work with science and maths departments to boost STEM education, taking lessons, carrying out workshops and masterclasses and providing smaller group support to students. Please see the following link for more information about the programme: http://misti.mit.edu/global-teaching-labs
In January 2019, we brought three MIT Global Teaching Labs (GTL) instructors to Wales who spent 3 weeks teaching science and maths projects and workshops at Ysgol Gyfun Bro Morgannwg, Fitzalan High School and Y Pant Comprehensive School, visiting other schools across South Wales, supporting The Seren Network by delivering masterclasses, and connecting with the tech and STEM-related industries through Be The Spark (www.bethespark.wales), Techniquest, Codez Academy and other organisations.
In January 2020, twelve MIT GTL instructors will be coming to Wales, teaching in schools across all four regions (CSC, EAS, ERW & GWE) and living with host families, immersing themselves fully in Welsh life and culture, learning about our unique language, history and evolving education system.
In addition to supporting learners, the MIT GTL instructors provide an excellent boost to schools in terms of professional learning, demonstrating schools’ capacity and abilities as learning organisations and co-working with other schools, all in line with the new policy agenda as outlined in the new curriculum and national mission for education in Wales.
We’re incredibly excited to be expanding this programme as part of our wider efforts to improve the education landscape in Wales through enabling pupils and professionals to access opportunities with international reach.
